Orchard at Altapass Milepost 328.3 Blue Ridge Parkway

The Orchard at Altapass is located off the  lue Ridge Parkway at milepost 328.3 nearby to Spruce Pine and Little Switzerland. The Orchard at Altapass is a 105 year old apple farm that offers a variety of things to do for parkway travelers. The orchard offers live music, events, ice cream, fudge, a sandwich shop, preserves, hayrides, hiking trails, souvenirs and gifts.

The Orchard at Altapass is open from May to October, Wednesday thru Sunday and is FREE to attend. The Live music jam is held on Saturday and Sunday from 12:30-4:00. Learn about Monarch butterflies or view the Orchard bee hives. If you are hungry the Apple Core Grill is open serving food from 11am-4pm Friday thru Sunday with picnic table seating. During Aug -Oct the grill is open on Wednesday and Thursdays.

Orchard at Altapass at McKinney Gap is the lowest passage through the Blue Ridge Mountains and has many historical dates. On September 20, 1780 , The Overmountain men volunteers passes through the area on their way to King’s Mountain during the Revolutionary War. The Clinchfield Railroad was completed in 1908 with 28 tunnels and 13 miles of track passing by the Orchard at Altapass. The land was purchased and the orchard preserved by Bill Carson in 1994.
